Fox Guest: A Vote For Obama Means The U.N. Will Rule America! | Crooks and Liars

  1. As part of almost non-stop Get-Out-The-Vote for Romney election coverage on Fox & Friends this morning, the Curvy Couch Crew trotted out PNAC signatory and torture enthusiast Cliff May to help blow the “Obama loves the U.N. more than he loves America” dog whistle.

In the special programming, we were "treated" to the weekday hosts on a Sunday. So Steve Doocy set the stage before the interview by suggesting that only Mitt Romney has the love for his country that America needs. Doocy played a clip of President Obama saying, “I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism.” The “fair and balanced” show left out the part where Obama said,"I am enormously proud of my country and its role and history in the world… The United States remains the largest economy in the world. We have unmatched military capability. And I think that we have a core set of values that are enshrined in our Constitution, in our body of law, in our democratic practices, in our belief in free speech and equality that, though imperfect, are exceptional.”

Romney, on the other hand, was shown saying, “I believe we are an exceptional country with a unique destiny and role in the world. Not ‘exceptional’ as the President has derisively said… In Barack Obama’s profoundly mistaken view, there’s nothing unique about the United States.” Predictably, Fox also “forgot” about Romney’s disdain for 47% of the country.

Then came Cliff May, introduced merely as “president of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.” Doocy also “forgot” to mention that May is a Republican operative who has shown his own “love” for America by sneering Hillary Clinton should be called a “Vaginal-American” and that some liberals “would like to see America defeated in Iraq as a demonstration exercise that US power can never, never be used for good.”

Yet May hates the U.N. and was willing to parlay that into an anti-Obama message so that seems enough to qualify him as a “true patriot” on Fox News.

Doocy: We just played that little soundbite of the President of the United States talking about how I believe in American exceptionalism just as the Brits believe in British exceptionalism, the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism. Really, that’s a way of him saying no country is exceptional.

…Cliff, we’re the last superpower out there. And what is hanging in the balance regarding American exceptionalism and this election?

May: Well, it’s a matter of America’s mission in the world. It’s a matter of America’s identity in the world. And I think one of the things I worry about are those who are called transnational progressives who want to see the U.N. become a global government to which we should all submit. The fact of the matter is that the U.N., China and Russia, which are not yet Democratic countries, they have veto power on the Security Council and the General Assembly is controlled by nations that are despotisms that are undemocratic. If we allow global governance, we’re not gonna see freedom persist throughout this century. Either we defend it, as Reagan said, or it goes away. Freedom is not the birthright of every human being without anybody fighting for it.

Funny, I missed the part where President Obama said anything about allowing global governance or submitting to the U.N. but I guess we’re supposed to “just know” that’s how he feels because he suspects Brits and Greeks think their countries are exceptional, too.

Well, that and the lower-third banner which read: SPREADING THE WEALTH: OBAMA: OTHERS CAN BE EXCEPTIONAL TOO. Plus, Doocy, who repeatedly nodded his head in agreement, said, "Well put."
